Accuracy, Speed and Power are the key skills to a practitioner of practical shooting, the goal is to incorporate trails with obstacles (tunnels, windows, doors, walls) reaching the target of cardboard which should be drilled with two shots, or metal that fall when hit . The result is calculated by dividing the points on the targets for the time spent to reach them simulating situations that should be “solved” in the shortest time possible, however keeping the accuracy. The rules of the IPSC encourage diversification of the runways to prevent the sport be restricted to a particular type of track. Also, some competitions are hidden targets that appear suddenly without the athletes know their location in advance.
To allow such movement, we need the close monitoring of an arbitrator (Range Officer-RO) able to immediately apply the determinations of a strict regulation, designed to allow a safe practice and equal for all competitors. At the end of each stage, the shooter has his weapon inspected by the referee, should show the empty chamber and pull the trigger causing the precursor to beat freely on the camera. The minimum required is a ground or gravel, preventing ricochets.
Originally weapons are used in larger sizes, but we have the category Light Gun for calibers like .380.
The main methods are:
- Open pistol – the weapon is not limited to modifications.
- Standard pistol – the weapon must be original factory, the size normally used .40 or .45.
- Modified gun – the gun has no limits to modifications, the size normally used .40 or .45.
- Light gun – the gun is an original factory standard – .380 or .765 caliber (not regulated by CBTP only by State Federations).
- Ladies – you can participate with any type of weapon.
- Junior – up to 21 years category.
- Senior – category with over 50 years.
