There is no doubt the role of sport in the moral education of many individuals, and routing of people who were not their dreams of being a great champion in a particular sport, their fates would have been tragic. In the case of shooting, we emphasize the possibility of sublimation of some trends in the personality of individuals through their practice. That is, people who have character with aggressive tendencies, linked to the firearm, may have in practice target shooting a good outlet for the same time, suppress their urge to “destroy”, and will channel this into something constructive , fun and socially positive – the sport.

Concept, History and Methods

To begin our exploration of the topic, it is important to know the concept of Shooting Sport:

The shooting is a sport that involves testing the accuracy and speed in handling a firearm or compressed air. The practice of this method requires training and discipline. It is necessary to use protective equipment like goggles and ear protectors.

The story of the shooting back to the late 13th century, but only in the 19th century, when the arms industry has expanded, mainly due to world wars, the Shooting Sport reached the sophistication today. In Brazil, the Confederation of Brazilian Tire was founded in 1906, the first Olympic sport organized in Brazil. Among other feats, the Shooting Sport has become the modality with the largest number of athletes in the first Olympiad of modern slant, held in Athens in 1986. In 1987, France was the host country’s first World Championship.

Roughly, the shooting sports has three categories: pistol, rifle and clay pigeon shooting. There are variations in relation to the size and the mechanism of operation, in the case of air weapons, and position / distance / movement of the shooter (lying, standing 50 meters, 25 meters, fast etc).

Olympic Shooting

As mentioned, the shot has a significant tradition of Olympic competition where the sport is most widespread and observed. Currently, the largest number of Olympic medals are the United States with 50 gold medals, while second-placed China, has 19. Brazil has only one gold medal, gained in Antwerp in 1920, and is below the 30 th place in the overall ranking.

Here are the categories currently included in the Olympic Games:

- Men: There are three races – three positions, prone and air rifle;

- Three positions (male and female): Throw into a target 50 meters away, lying, standing and kneeling. Are three sets of 40 shots for three men and 20 women;

- Small size – Laying (male): The contestants are lying and have to hit targets 50 meters away. There are 60 shots;

- Air Rifle (male and female): By air or carbon dioxide. The competition is standing at a distance of ten meters. There are 60 shots for men and 40 for women;

- Men: The category is divided into a moving target, free pistol, air pistol and rapid fire;

- Target Mobile: The proof is divided into two phases: slow and fast. In slow, the competitors have to hit the target visible (plate of 11 cm in diameter, made of clay with lime and tar) for five seconds. In response, the time is shorter, just two and a half seconds. They fired 30 shots at each stage;

- Pistol – 50 m: Shoot with a pistol using only one hand. There are 60 shots in six series, with the fixed target placed 50 meters from the shooter;

- Air Pistol: Even the gun free program, but with air guns at a distance of ten meters;

- Medal female: Throw with a distance of 25 m with a gun with a capacity of five shots. They fired five shots at five adjacent targets. The test consists of 60 shots, made in two stages of 30 shots with two sets of five shots in eight, six and four seconds, gradually;

- Medal female: Throw with a distance of 25 m with a pistol with a capacity of five shots. They fired six series of five shots at targets for accuracy in a time of six minutes per series and another 30 shots of “duel”;

- Clay Pigeon Shooting: the evidence is called skeet, Olympic trap and double;

- Skeet: The dishes are launched from high and low houses. Victory goes to hit as many dishes that can be fired separately or together during the course of prov;

- Trap: The shooter takes two shots and has to hit a plate;

- Fossa stunt: The athlete has to hit two dishes with only two shots.

Remember that, like any sport, the Shooting Sport has varying degrees specialization, professionalization of the amateurs. Thus, it is valid to meet a group of friends and go to a booth shots to practice the sport, competitions and even creating their own rules, while of course respecting the basic rules of safe handling of weapons.
