Weapon introduced towards the end of the sixteenth century, according to the practice adopted by some riders, using a reinforced armor capable of withstanding the firing of a gun. It had a caliber more support, and therefore heavier than the musket – up to weigh 11 kg with a diameter of up to 24 mm and a range of about 220 meters (though the possibility of hitting a target at this distance is very small ). To be shot, was used with a fork.

Musketeer being attacked by heavy cavalry, century. XVI. On the battlefield, the slow rate of fire of the weapon made with such a conflict favored the cavalry.

Musketeer. From Gheyn, 1607.
